Does your health says anything about your employability at Avebe? “No”, says Joost Horstink, Working Conditions Specialist and Vitality Advisor of Avebe. “After all, employability is also about your mental state, your working conditions and whether you can successfully combine your work and private life. We'd like to know what the situation is regarding the employability of our colleagues, which is why we're introducing the ‘Of Value Scan’ this year.”

“A health scan? Another scan? We're heading for a busy time”, laugh Avebe employees Luc Tijmes, Johnny Koetje and Jan Ros when they sit down at Joost's table to talk about the scan. The big question is also immediately on the table: “What about the data, who gets to see the results of all that research?”

Joost offers some reassurance: “The data is and remains your own, and only you can view it. No one can access your personal data, not even the manager. The HR department receives an anonymous summary of all the data from Simple Check, our partner who manages the data, to form a general image of the employability of our colleagues.”

Now that Luc, Johnny and Jan feel reassured, they would like to know more about the study.
Luc asks: “In what way is this scan different from the Periodic Medical Examination (PME)?” Joost: “This survey goes further: it’s about employability, not just about health. Of course there are questions about your health, but also about how you experience the pressure of work, whether you would like to have more challenge in your work and how the balance between your work and private life is. All these subjects play a role in how you feel and the extent to which you're able to do your work for Avebe.” The scan actually replaces the PME, he explains. “The Health Check, which is taken in a health bus, is part of this. The bus will appear at the locations later this year.”

Johnny's curious: “But why such a detailed examination? And what do you want to achieve with it?” Joost: “We'd very much like our employees to know about their employability. We want to be able to support them with tailor-made training or coaching programmes. The general information we collect enables us to adapt and improve working conditions if necessary. If, for example, it turns out at a location that many colleagues have physical problems as a result of their work, we can look for a solution, such as a physiotherapy consultation hour. Or if we find that colleagues need help with informal care, we can guide or assist them in this. That way, everyone can enjoy their work and keep it that way.”
“You say that very clearly: general information”, asks Jan. “What exactly does that mean?” Joost: “We collect information from groups of employees, we can't trace it back to one person. We look at location or type of work, but the selection must always include at least thirty people.” Luc wonders: “What use is it to me personally?” Joost has a clear answer to that: “A lot! Because you do have access to your personal data. You can view the scores from the study on your personal page. And you’ll also find a range of guidance, courses or schemes that are tailored to your needs. That's worth a lot!”

After their initial misgivings, Jan, Luc and Johnny are positive about the scan. Luc: “I think it might be useful. For Avebe, but especially for me. With the data from the scan, I can see for myself if I need any help.” Jan adds: “And you can set that in motion yourself, I think that's important. That way I work more actively on my own health and employability.” “You'll quickly see what Avebe can help you with”, says Johnny. “And that you're not alone.”

The page and data are only for you and remain available to you if you are no longer working at Avebe. Participation in the scan is voluntary. The Health Check is not an unknown phenomenon for employees of Avebe. Every two years, employees can take part in this health screening. The last edition dates from 2016.

Avebe

Avebe is a cooperative of starch-potato growers focused on the market. Traditionally we only focused on extracting starch from potatoes. However, by developing innovative methods we now also extract proteins from potatoes that are intended for the food industry. But there is more…. To us a potato is a source of opportunities with even more ingredients that can be turned into value. In other words, if it’s in there, we’ll extract it!
