2019 is a special year. On 11 November 2019, we'll be celebrating our 100th anniversary. That means looking back, but also ahead. We're doing this together with our members, employees and business relations during various events. Open, connected, together, sustainable, international and forward-looking are important and central themes.

These themes have also been central in recent months. Together with our members and employees, we felt the impact of the longest and warmest summer. The crops struggled and the yields were disappointing. The shortage of raw materials caused our factories in Germany and
Ter Apelkanaal to stop production earlier than planned. “We've paid close attention to costs and taken advantage of market opportunities. This ultimately resulted in a higher performance price.” However, for many members this does not make up for the damage they have suffered, it only mitigates it. This is now behind us and the potatoes for the next campaign are already in the ground. Hopefully the sun and rain will alternate and we'll get a better harvest than last year.

We take a look back and a look ahead to the 100th anniversary of Avebe. Avebe started out as
the ‘Aardappelmeel Verkoop Bureau’ in 1919. Much has changed in the past hundred years,
but one thing has stayed the same: the potato is our base. In the meantime, we've grown into an international cooperative with over 2300 Dutch and German members and 1300 employees worldwide. Our products find their way to customers all over the world. We've achieved this together with our members and employees and we can be proud of that! This year, we'll be celebrating our 100th anniversary in various events. You can read more about this in this magazine.

I wish us all a wonderful anniversary year!

With kind regards,
Bert Jansen

Avebe

Avebe is a cooperative of starch-potato growers focused on the market. Traditionally we only focused on extracting starch from potatoes. However, by developing innovative methods we now also extract proteins from potatoes that are intended for the food industry. But there is more…. To us a potato is a source of opportunities with even more ingredients that can be turned into value. In other words, if it’s in there, we’ll extract it!
