Avebe has a regional sales office in Singapore to serve the market for starch products in Asia/Pacific. From this office, the sales department is managed and orders from the region are processed centrally. Customer service for Asia is also based in Singapore.
"Whereas previously the sale of Avebe products to countries around the western Pacific was arranged from the Netherlands, in 1998 there was a need for a local presence. To respond more quickly to customer demands and market developments, Avebe has been based in Singapore since that year”, says Pitoyo, Sales Manager at Avebe Singapore. Singapore is centrally located and is an efficient hub for businesses. A presence in this region offers considerable advantages. “That way, the time difference is no longer an obstacle to doing business and we're in a better position in this large region to take advantage of business opportunities.”
“We serve a large area.” In addition to the Singapore office, Avebe also has sales locations in Japan, China and Taiwan. Avebe Singapore's major customers are in Japan and Korea, explains Pitoyo. “In addition, our employees in Singapore serve smaller companies in the region and work together with wholesalers.”
As a result of the increasing prosperity in Asia, the diet has changed over the years. Pitoyo: “We also notice this in the demand for our products.” Avebe sells mainly native and modified potato starch in Asia/Pacific. These products are used for noodles, snacks, sweets and bakery products, for instance. We also supply starch for adhesives, paper and construction applications.” Avebe sells 100,000 tonnes of starch a year in this region.
