During the campaign, tons of potatoes arrive at Avebe every day. But a great deal has to be done before we can get everything out of them. Follow the path of the potato; from the field to the factory.

The potatoes are harvested. From the potato harvester they are transferred into the tipping trailer.

2/12

The potatoes are collected on the field.

3/12

The potato cleaner is used to load the potatoes on the lorry. The driver checks the loading weight of the lorry with a special device.

4/12

It is mandatory to place a 'caution' sign when loading potatoes.

5/12

Before the lorry leaves for Avebe, the supplier's data is scanned on the lorry driver's pass.

6/12

The lorry arrives at the Avebe location. On arrival at the weighbridge the pass is scanned again and the freight is registered.

7/12

The lorry is weighed in its entirety and a sample is taken from the batch at two random locations fully automatically. This sample is used to determine the quality data.

8/12

The potato samples are tipped into the washing drum where they are washed.

9/12

The potatoes are then visually assessed and the quality data is entered into the system.

10/12

The potato sample is weighed under water. This is how the starch percentage is determined. All entered and registered data is directly visible to the grower in the special Avebe app.

11/12

The large storage area at the location in Gasselternijveen. The potatoes are delivered via the conveyor belts and stock is built up. Water is used to flush out the large storage area. That's how the large storage area supplies the factory with potatoes.

12/12

The potatoes are tipped by the lorry into a bunker. From there the potatoes are transported via a conveyor belt to the large storage area.

Avebe

Avebe is a cooperative of starch-potato growers focused on the market. Traditionally we only focused on extracting starch from potatoes. However, by developing innovative methods we now also extract proteins from potatoes that are intended for the food industry. But there is more…. To us a potato is a source of opportunities with even more ingredients that can be turned into value. In other words, if it’s in there, we’ll extract it!
