THE

AVEBE 10

Binding & Building 2.0 is about creating added value. Avebe's employees are decisive when it comes to meeting targets and therefore work according to 'Avebe 10'; Ten guiding principles that guide them through their daily work. A number of employees explain how they apply ‘Avebe 10’ in their work.

‘It all starts with you. Everyone is responsible for their own success. We at Avebe extract everything to be had. The same applies to me. After gaining several years of experience at Avebe as a process operator, I started last February as a supervisory operator at the food factory in Ter Apelkanaal. In the meantime, I've followed the internal development programme ‘Ready to go’, among others. In February I started my higher professional education course in Business Administration MER. In the meantime I took the opportunity to go for promotion as a Teamleader at the potato flour factory in Gasselternijveen. As a budding Team Leader and student I'm developing and learning a lot. In recent years, Avebe has been working hard on innovation. Everyone at Avebe will have to keep developing themselves to work with the new technologies and raise Avebe to the next level.’

‘The performance price is an important indicator of the success of our growers. If the performance price is high, my grower gets a good average payment. As an account manager, I do everything I can to help growers achieve optimum harvests. Optimal harvests mean good yields in starch and proteins, with the lowest costs of course. We advise growers on crop protection products and the level of fertilisation. We also support the organisation of transporting potatoes to the factories. There's still much to gain. An example is improving the registration of the right varieties on delivery. We can certainly still make progress in this area. There are plenty of opportunities to do even better together with the growers in the years to come.’

‘In my work I'm concerned with quality, environment, safety and health. I want to convey my enthusiasm for my work to my team, I want to motivate and inspire them! Networking in the city of Malmö, where we're located, is also part of my work. I find it important to explain to those around us what we do, what projects and changes we are working on and why. We do this very ‘open mindedly’. We invite the local residents and network organisations in the city and notice that they are interested and understanding. This is also the case in our contacts with government agencies. We talk about our owners, the members/ shareholders, and our sustainability strategy. We take this seriously and that gives the outside world confidence both now and in the future.’

‘By responding to market developments and their implications, we create added value for our customers. My Supply Chain Management department ensures that Avebe can deliver the right product, in the right form of packaging, to the right address and at the agreed time to our customers. We deliver the orders exactly as they want them. That way we try to reduce the number of complaints from customers and always try to deliver goods on time. We assess every complaint in detail and discuss it internally. We're constantly looking at how we can improve our processes and work more efficiently. The customer comes first at Avebe. I'm completely behind that. Without customers I wouldn't work here, they provide work and therefore our income. That's why I like to serve the customer down to the last detail.’

‘Flavour is an essential element of our products. It's only by working with my colleagues that we can properly map out that flavour. That's why I started a tasting panel that specifically determines ‘our taste’. The panel consists of colleagues who learn to objectively assess the taste of our products and applications. Based on my work in the innovation centre, I find it important to understand the processes in the factory. After all, these processes determine the flavour of our product. I share the insights we gain within innovations with the Sales and Marketing departments, among others. It helps us to make our value propositions even better. Only together can we innovate and deliver added value. That's what I do it for!’

‘When I look at the developments in the world around me, I see that Avebe is making logical choices in the new strategy. These choices must come alive for our colleagues and it must be clear how each of us can add value to the company in this context. We at the HR department have translated the pillars of the strategy into goals for our department and also into personal goals. This means that I know how I can make a very focused contribution to the realisation of the strategy. Together for the customer, that's important. In my role as HR Director Operations, I work every day to create a forward-looking organisation by creating conditions in which people can develop. Ultimately we want to ensure that the right person is in the right place and we work together throughout the organisation to achieve the strategic goals. Sustainable employability is the starting point here, as are quality and efficiency.’

Avebe

Avebe is a cooperative of starch-potato growers focused on the market. Traditionally we only focused on extracting starch from potatoes. However, by developing innovative methods we now also extract proteins from potatoes that are intended for the food industry. But there is more…. To us a potato is a source of opportunities with even more ingredients that can be turned into value. In other words, if it’s in there, we’ll extract it!
